Signature Vacations opens hearts & pantry’s for charity
 

TORONTO, ON - January 16, 2009 Showing the true spirit of the holiday season, the staff of Signature Vacations’ Vancouver office opened their hearts and rallied together to fight hunger. During the month of December each staff member was encouraged to bring in nutritional canned and dry food items in an attempt to fill an over-sized festive donation box. At the end of the month, the staff was proud to report that enough food items were brought in to overflow the donation box!

All donations have been packaged and sent to the Surrey Food Bank in British Columbia, a charity that had a rough season with a reported four separate break & enters during the Holiday season.

Education and fun the theme of Signature Vacations Cozumel FAM
 

TORONTO, ON - November 04, 2008 On October 28 and 29, 2008 the Signature Vacations Sales Team had the privilege of leading over 120 agents to Cozumel to showcase the best each hotel has to offer with a strong focus on the new Holiday Village White Sands. Starting early, the 2 day FAM commenced at Pearson International Airport with much excitement when agents checked in and were randomly chosen to enjoy the extra comfortable StarClass seats. Upon arrival the energetic group was met by the Mexican Tourist Board, a lively Mariachi Band and a few tasty treats before transferring to the Holiday Village White Sands, the host hotel for the FAM. With a couple hours of free time, agents were encouraged to explore the Holiday Village and its fantastic stretch of white sand before a site inspection which left many excited about the hotel’s offerings for both families and adults-only … especially the over-sized Pirate Ship splash park, oceanfront Jacuzzi and high-ropes course! After seeing the best the Holiday Village had to offer, the Mexican Tourist Board graciously took the entire group on a brief island tour highlighting some of the destinations magnificent east coast beaches. Returning from the tour, the group dispersed to gather a second wind for a night of Mexican Entertainment. Dressing the beach with tiki torches, beautiful tables and a magnificent buffet, Holiday Village put on an evening of Fire Dancers, local musicians and salsa dancing that left everyone laughing and smiling well into the night.

With day one focusing on experiencing the Holiday Village, day two concentrated on the island’s other hotels with site inspections of the Melia Cozumel, the Occidental Grand Cozumel as well as lunch and tour of the Iberostar Cozumel. While the FAM was busy and had everyone up early, both agents and the Signature Vacations’ staff left Cozumel in high spirits and with great expectations for the destinations winter sales.

Wide open, friendly and a totally welcoming feeling. I believe that Cozumel is a great natural destination that can still give everyone the impression that they are in the real Mexico. By the way, the Star Class seating was very comfortable.”

Sustainability and Charitable Giving the theme of inaugural First Choice Cares Day
 

TORONTO, ON - August 28, 2008 Taking environmental concerns and social responsibility to heart, First Choice Canadas’ Sustainable Development Committee held its first ever First Choice Cares Day on August 20th, 2008. A new initiative by the team, the day focused on educating staff on the achievements of the organization to date as well as what each employee could do on an individual level with the theory that ‘small changes add up!’ The interactive day included a contest where departments were challenged to create realistic and attainable sustainable commitments and showcase them through homemade, recycled posters as well as a large charity raffle with proceeds of over $1000.00 going to help keep several acres of Costa Rican rainforest thriving. In conjunction with the contests, raffles and informational presentations, the committee launched the First Choice Canada Sustainable Development Policy and Commitment which was later posted in all the regional office locations to help keep the momentum going.

Met with much enthusiasm and interest, the day was a huge success for First Choice Canada. While everyone involved walked away with a few more tips on how to act responsibly the real winner of the day was the Heliconias Lodge & Rainforest Reserve in Costa Rica. Situated on the edge of Tenorio Volcano National Park the Heliconias is a pioneer in eco-tourism within the Northern Region of Costa Rica. The land in which this property stands was originally slated for deforestation, but thanks to the passionate efforts of twenty three local families the area is still a flourishing rainforest. These families came together to champion a project that would assist the local community & economy as well as protect the natural state of the environment and thus the Heliconias Lodge was born. Compelled by the efforts and stories of these local families, the TUI Travel Group has begun a project working in which the different brands and sectors will take on projects to help the lodge flourish with First Choice Canada taking on the exciting role of creating a website so that travellers the world over can experience this unique place.

Signature Vacations announces winner of Refresh Yourself contest

Taking the day off work to start vacation planning, Serge says he signed up for the contest as soon as he received his regularly subscribed Signature e-newsletter. After asking for the support votes of friends, family and co-workers the snowball effect started, showing that solidarity is strong in the Abitibi region of Quebec.

When asked why suicide prevention, Serge tells us that this is a cause which has touched him personally and is a serious and sad reality in communities like his where the winters are long, cold and dark. When he called the Centre to let them know the thrilling news they were completely shocked as the $25,000 will be the largest donation they’ve ever received.
